A leftover piece of either cypress or cottonwood that I chucked up and ended up with a unique potpourri container. It's highly spalted and I'm very pleased that it stayed together. The orange is IN the wood, goes all the thru, guess it's another fungal process.
Turned on a shopfox 1758, 5 x3 inches, lacquer finish.

Really nice piece and good save. I think I would say cypress. I just turned some cottonwood and it is nothing like what you have. it is very soft and stringy doubt it would have come out this nice.

That tree either doesn't grow here or is really rare.

Looks like Cotton wood to me here an Nice job to, some cotton woods hss resins in them an I think that is resin you seeing there :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Nice piece of wood and a good ending for it. I like the bottom detail too.
