Here is an easy finish with what I think are great results,for a novice finisher as myself anyway.
Two coats of the wipe on gel and four coats of the spray laquer,400 grit between coats. The laquer is ready to sand and recoat in one hour.

That's a beauty. Nice work.

The polyurethane works as a sealer, and the spray lacquer is the finish, Correct?

How is the lacquer for standing up to water marking, etc?

As I said in another post, you don't need to sand the lacquer between coats. Just sand your first coat of poly or sanding sealer or shellac, then just layer on the lacquer coat by coat. If you do find a nib or a hair or something, just swipe at it with some 400 and spray again. If you are finding that you HAVE to sand between coats, you're spraying too heavy.
