Hi Chris, I'm in the same boat as you(software) but I asked my boss for a standing desk and they bought me this guy: http://www.ergodesktop.com/content/kangaroo-elite
It's pretty salty at $600 but they do have cheaper models. This thing is so awesome, it goes up and down quickly/easily and when I have it in the down position I'm sitting on an excercise ball. I stand about 2/3 of the day and sit the rest.
I could not go back to sitting all day. Have not used my office chair in ages :thumbsup:

Starting tomorrow my employer is letting me transition to telecommuter, which is great since I live 50 miles from work.

I'm leaning towards the taller desk with a tall stool.

I had jerry-rigged something so I could stand up by putting my keyboard and mouse on a box on my desk. My boss' boss saw that and he ordered me one of these:

The one he got me was the larger one which costs about $300. So I never got past the initial stage of brainstorming.

I think I started a fad, because 5-10 other people ordered them.

Haha, i was using cardboard boxes at work as well before they bought my desk.
The girl in the office next to mine ended up with that varidesk.

I'm just going to raise mine up and get a tall stool for when I want to sit down.
