Hi,
All the best from Yorkshire in the UK
I'm new to wood turning but I love wood. Love making things and making tools.
Started making pens on a vintage small metals lathe a few years ago and really took to it, so when a wood lathe came up for sale I bought it.
It has a three foot center to centre and I have made spade tool handles from scratch out of Ash. Also made mallets chisel and file handles too lol

Oh and I like my measurements in feet and inches too (old imperial) ;-)

Look forward to get to know you

L. :)

Welcome to the forum, Lancelot!

IMO, great choice on the midi-lathe size. It's a good size for both small and large turnings, and will probably fit most of your needs. I find my midi-lathe very adaptable to most lathe chucks in today's accessory market.

Also, Biotech's Post#2 to be a very worthy website to visit. I've use it many times myself. An added site you may choose to visit is Woodcraft,USA's Woodturning 101. It's another instructional site, featuring Allan Batty's teachings of turning, tool sharpening and much more.

Welcome, fellow countryman, but a Southener.
Yorkshire is a beautiful county and where my wife and I enjoyed the best fish and chips ever by the harbour in Whitby. Also remember Malham and the waterfall cliff.
I h9ave seen hinges like that shown before. Sometimes the pin is spring loaded and can be depressed with a knife.
