Here's a tip I learned the hard way. Whenever you tap the lid back on the can of clear,put a rag over it first. I had a raw project nearby when I hit the lid and didn't realize until I stained it that the clear droplets scattered across it. Needless to say they showed up as spots:censored: Now where's that sandpaper:cursing:

I have found that if I take a small nail, or a small center punch, and go around the can in the lid groove, making about four small, equally spaced holes, the paint/stain/varnish will drain back into the can, and not collect in the groove. This saves the overspray, and also makes the lids easier to pry off in the future.Gerry
