I'm putting ponderosa pine through a 4 head moulder (Smithway), and the moulder is raising the grain (cutting soft grain out). The blades on the machine are brand new, and the wood is not wet or green. Does anyone know why this is happening or how to fix it?

Thanks,

There might be one high blade?

Can you check the bevel angle as suggested? A micro bevel may reduce the tear out and you can do that with the blades in the machine...well, I have done it that way on a 12" Foley Belsaw planer. Check the moisture content with a reliable meter.
That's all I can think of...... ;) bill
