I'm in the 40 year camp as well.......
The problem(opportunity)here was some of the processes we do,there weren't any machines to do it?So went to school,bent every ear that would give me the time of day....then started acquiring equip to,"roll our own".It has been extremely rewarding and our cabinet shop is all the better for it.There pretty much isn't anything we can't build,to include machinery.
Working on machinery "balancing" now.It is a very interesting subject,and am learning a lot.Best of luck to you,hope all your machine deals fall right into place.
