Hi, I'm a new wood worker and I want to make a loft bed for one of my first projects. I plan on using 2x3 inch pine for the frame of the bed. Would this be strong enough for the task at hand?

welcome to the forum, Thaerion.
how big is the bed, how heavy are the people that will be using it on a regular basis ?
will it have box springs or just mattress on wood slats.
do you have a sketch or plan to share with us ?

There's the sagulator chart,

Then of course you could get more technical.

The force can be calculated by using the following formula:

where p is the momentum, t is the time, m is the mass and a is the acceleration.
Sorry, couldn't resist ......but we're adults, right?

Reminds of a funny story 3 or 4 of us are having an over the truck bed rail BS session with my sawyer friend he's talking about building a bed out of 2x6 oak. Understand his wife is north of 300#.

Say's "If she breaks that, by God, she'll have to go on a diet."
