I have a mahagony veneer cabinet was thinking of using 800 grit to get rid of the old poly. And then use 600 grit over that. And after that Steele wool and finally I bought a mini wax ploy mix with a mahagony lacquer. And was thinking of applying it with sponge

Actually I could not find the parts for the raidio so I am converting it to a home theater computer and was hoping to get a nice shine on it. Also leaving it as is not possible due to the fact that the damage from the previous owner is disgustingly apparent
