My Antique Stanley Plane collection
Oh! Yes, they're all in excellent condition and most of them are used post-dimensioning and pre-finishing. I hate dust! Looking at the age of these planes, you wonder; where they've been, thru the years. Who's hand they've been in.
But you don't need all these plane to surface lumber. Only 3 basic planes are a must;
1. Start with a coarse roughing plane - a #5 Fore or Jack,
2. A medium plane - #7 Try-plane for truing as best you can,
3. A fine plane - #4 smoother
Mostly all of Stanley planes have been copied by other manufacturers as soon as patent dates ended. Other Companies like Union Tools, Sargent and Miller Falls just to name a few. Other name brands of planes were manufactured by Stanley.
