Red Elm Nightstands
These were made for our MBR. It's my design based on some Mission/Arts & Crafts influence. Stain is a mix of colonial maple and walnut. Finish is Waterlox. First time using elm, but definitely won't be the last. It's a bit finnicky to work with, but has gorgeous grain that has much more detail than the pics show. It's prone to movement after milling, is stalky and tends to fuzz a lot even with sharp high quality cutters. My solution to the movement is to let it acclimate, dimension slightly over size and let it acclimate again for a day or two before dimensioning to final size. It seems to have held well.
