    Dear Howard.
During September 2012 you posted a most informative contribution regarding the manufacture of end grain butcher blocks.
You stress the importance of selecting the grain direction. I quote your post below:
"First, choose wood where the growth rings (viewed from the end) run as close to 90 degrees or parallel to one edge. Remember, the expansion/contraction is about double along the annular rings verses perpendicular to the rings. You've got to keep the grain running in the same direction as you glue up your strips. In other words, don't glue a flatsawn edge to a quartersawn edge."
Should the timber ideally be flatsawn or quartersawn? Or must it just all be the same?
    Thanks and regards,
    Jadon Allen

Sir, May I be so bold as to ask how it came out? What did you use & how did you apply it?
I am currently building a redwood stand for my wife's Bonzi redwood trees. Thanks

Yup, I remember you. WoodNet still has an active board and has established a "Finishing" sub-section. I spend more time there than I do here.

Howard, perhaps you remember me from the Woodnet days. Haven't been on that board for a long time and frankly dont even know if it's still up and operational. I'm new to this board and it's nice to see you here. Doubt I'll post much but it seems a well run forum with some very good posters. Feel free to drop a note or we'll just watch for your posts on the forum.
