    add on:
-Shelves need to be at least 3/4 inch MDF or melamine stay away from plywood unless your doing outside trees, then use treated plywood not the indoor stuff. The other thing you can do is just buy pre-made shelves and cut to length , what ever you use cover with carpet using hot glue.

No problem. Step by step is a little difficult without knowing specifically what you are building, but in general terms from the site you mentioned, here are a few guidelines

-forget that carpet they use in the store bought stuff, doesn't last. I basically buy indoor/outdoor carpet, buy it by the liner foot usually only cost $6 to $10 a foot so if you get say three foot, you have a piece 3 foot by 12 foot for less $30 for the most expensive
-making scratching post are easy, if you want them round use 2 or 3 inch PVC pipe to what ever length you like, wrap with 3/8 inch sisal rope, hot glue every few inch's or you can use 4x4 post wrap the same way. I usually use the 4x4 if shelf's will be used, and route out a dado for the shelf on three sides with the corresponding cut out on the shelf wrap rope between each shelf.
