|This was a gift for my sister. Made from left over poplar from the train display cabinet, it has a votive candle lantern on it that I converted into an electric light. The post has a base made from 2x10. The post itself was built four sided with poplar planks joined edge to face, and left hollow up the center to run the wire. It doesn't show but the wood was slightly twisted when I used it so to help hide this, and add to the rustic look, I used a jig saw to carve out slivers along the corner edges of the post. This added to the character of the piece, and removed the straight sight lines of the post, making the twist harder to see. The final finish was dark blue paint, exterior grade to withstand outdoor use.
