I used std schedule 40 PVC fittings. The reason a 2.5" hose will fit a 2" fitting is because a 2" fitting is NOT the size of the fitting, but the ID of the pipe it is for. Example, the ID of a 2" fitting is 2.375". I don't have a hose with me, but the OD of the shop vac hose is slightly smaller than 2.5", that's why they fit together. I came across your Thien Baffle thread while searching on how build one using a 5 Gallon bucket. I have a few questions, and I hope you will be able to help me out.

In your post, you mention that a 2.5" hose will fit inside a 2" elbow; I am having a hard time understanding how that is possible. Also, where did you get your PVC fittings? After looking at your post, I went to the local hardware store and got really confused by all the different types of PVC fittings that are available. If you have list of fittings to buy for this design, can you please post it?

I would highly appreciate your help on this.
