That's how I would do it because they will still show but it won't look like your showing off. Contrasting wood is very over rated, mostly used in hobby woodworkers.

Wheres the fun in that? Ill agree that to much contrast can be overwhelming and draw too much attention, but just a hint of contrast is quite pleasing to behold. Recently did a walnut picture frame with some hard maple splines. he contrast between the light and dark really ended up working well. That said, if i had done 3 or 4 per corner instead of the 1 i did, it probably wouldve been a little overwhelming, but i really ended up liking the contrast. Personally, id say try out both options on a few pieces of scrap. Aesthetics are very subjecting anyway, best to try it out and see if you like whatever youre doing rather than trusting joe schmoe off the internet
