Need some design ideas
The son of a neighbor is in the Air Force Reserve and has come into possession of a window from an aircraft. He would like me to make it into a coffee table for his apartment.
The window is square on 3 sides, but has a slight arch on one side. It's about 3 feet by 1 1/2 feet. The mounting surface around the edge is coated with a rubbery material that has screw holes every couple of inches. On one side the glass is raised about 1/4 inch. On the other side it is flush.
My first thought was a very basic design, probably made from poplar and painted gloss black; basically just surrounding it with 1x4s, a 1x4 skirt, and square legs at the 4 corners. But I have a vague idea about having stainless steel screws all around the window - something that would make it look "bolted" into the table and suggest the aircraft origin of the glass. But the top would have to be flush.
If this project were handed to you, what would you come up with?
