Post How do I make this (total nub)

I'm a total nub and let's say I was interested in making this thing what tools would I use to make those perforations? They should be 18 ◊ 18 mm and carve those dips on the side precisely?

Not sure what that is, but it could be done with a router, guide bushing, and a template.

Are the holes 18mm square or is the whole piece 18mm square. If the former, then a router with a guide bushing and a template would do the job. If the latter, probably not so much.

I'll burn that bridge when I come to it

With a router you are going to have to do a lot of chisel work.

I would just glue it up out of individual boards.

Is the whole thing one chunk of wood? If so it could be routed out like described above but it would be pretty rough inside. It would take forever to sand the inside smooth if it was needed to be finished. Personally I would prefer to apply the grid on a flat board and half lap the pieces.

If, I'm viewing this correctly, the inside vertical corners are radiused, so this could be done somewhat easily with a router.

I've seen things that look a lot of like this before, in both wood and plastic. I'm pretty sure they were done with a CNC. The wooden ones did have a moderately rough texture and were unfinished. They were used for holding small parts in short run production line.

The holes are 18 mm. The whole thing should be perhaps 11 cm.
