Extra Large Cutting Board

Recently, I was asked to build a rather large cutting board/butcher block (1.5"X20"X28"). I have made cutting board before, but never one this size. I was planning on using 1" strips of maple and/or curly maple with cherry accents strips. The top of the cutting board is going to be edge grain. With making a board this big, are there any precautions that I should know about prehand? I don't own a planer, but I do have a router jig that I will use to flatten the top and bottom. Any advice or suggestions would be most helpful. Thanks.

Joe,
although I am no expert by far-- may I suggest for final glue up doing it in 3 steps- glue the board into two separate parts and then when they are dry glue the two parts together to make the final board dimension - it may help keep everything in line easier --- unless you have the ultimate clamp collection then I might be wrong

I hope the client is aware of the weight. It may need at least one handle.

I just made two 20-24-1-1/2 boards. They weighed 15 pounds each. Make sure the ends are square. On a board that large it is easy to get the ends out of square.
