Any ideas on how to do this?
I have been dabbling in woodworking, i am usually very interested in reading the tips and tricks I see here.
I saw a hat i liked recently, made of wood. I would like to make one out of walnut or mahogony, darker than the pine one i bought.
I just cant figure out how the cove was done, the photo is of the hat upside down, with the cut i am trying to figure out how to do.
Any ideas besides a big ol' router bit that will probably kill me?
I think to do that with a machine it would have to be done on a good shaper. Still I wouldn't want to make a career out of running them. A certain amount of them would just blow up from running parts of it against the grain. It would be a lot safer to use a woodcarvers gouge and a mallet and carve the shape. It might take a couple days work but would be doable.
