Its on my oak and on my plywood which have been treated with varnish and tung oil respectively (and a bit on some oak treated with tung oil) on a project I am doing. Does anyone know what it is and if is it harmful or a potential problem?
way more information needed to make any kind of guess.
how stored?
is this a finished project or just boards in waiting ?
any insects around that like to poop black stuff ?
wood burning stove in the vicinity ?
is it harmful ? ~ well, I wouldn't eat it.
have you tried to wipe it off with a wet cloth or mineral spirits ????
As I said its finished with varnish but some of the oak and plywood is finished with tung oil and its in a campervan conversion I have just finished building. Theres a wood burning stove in my house, so I guess its in the vicinity but not the same air space and hasn't been used since march.
Just tried wiping it with a damp cloth and it cleared quite easily, totally didn't expect that. Still wouldn't mind knowing what it is though.
since the weather is warm, I would guess it is droppings from a bug.
here in Florida, I have seen many similar issues even in different colors.
I just wipe clean with a wet cloth and don't worry about it.
the next time I see some, I will take pictures for comparison.
