Varnish removing

I have just spent ages with nitrmors getting paint etc. off dado rails, etc. But the wood is still stained with the origional varnish (Poss. Victorian times) Can any body suggest a simple way of getting the ingrained stain out.

A heavy wipe with a solvent like lacquer thinner or acetone may dissolve whatever is there into the wood. You could try an inconspicuous area to see what happens.

You may have to go to a stripper. The strongest of the strippers is an MC based (methylene chloride). The strongest of those I've tried is called "Aircraft Stripper". It's available at auto paint and body supply stores. It works great, but very nasty stuff. You should work outside, use a mask, protective gloves, and arm protection. Or, you could try a product called "Citra Strip", available at the big box stores. It's water based, smells like oranges, and can be used indoors. It may take more than one application with it.
