I've never used that brand but if you are refering to the wiping stain, there isn't a great deal of difference from one brand to another. It's basicly pigment, an oil such as linseed oil to bind it to the wood and a solvent to thin it. I don't think they would have survived 60 years if they made bad stain.

It's definitely better than Minwax. I like the Gemini stains. A little thinner and for me better blending of lines when staining. Old masters is heavier bodied and stains well. Do not like gel stains as I do a lot of chairs and intricate items. Thinner stains can be blown out of groves and wiped up cleaner.

old masters stain

I recently switched from oil to water based stains. I now use general stains and dyes . Doing some chairs for a lady she brought me a can of old masters stain , colour she wanted , I was just curious what others thought .
