I made some pine feet for a couch and sand sealed them and let them dry. Then I rubbed some minwax oak on them and it's been a day and their still not close to drying. So I did what wrong? This has happened before and it took days for it to dry. I haven't got the time now because their for someone else. :icon_confused:
Do you have any way to heat the feet in an oven are microwave? I have dryed things in the oven on about 150* for about 30 minutes. But before you try this in your wifes oven, wait for a few more opinions.
This is what caused your problem. The heat doesn't allow the finish to set. Just think of what happens to tar in the sun. I know this from experience Finishes do not do well in direct sun when you are looking for them to dry/cure.
Now that you mentioned Shellac, That's what I was going to use instead of sand sealer. I use the sand sealer so stain won't be uneven (light and dark spots) on soft wood. I'm glad you brought it up. I've got a good memory, it just so short!
In your treatment in the "pre stain" procedure, you may have sealed it too well, keeping the stain from doing its thing. It's hard to tell how much shellac, or sealer will work, without ruining the ability of the wood to take stain. You might try a wood conditioner like BENITE, which is specifically formulated for that purpose.
I have some wood conditioner, but the problem is I put it where I could find it easily, you can fill in the blanks.
