Need help with Caspian wood!

I went to the wood store the other day and some Caspian caught my eye. Its a dark wood that is heat treated and feels kind of oily. It doesn't seem to take varnish real well (turns real black). Any suggestions?

Correction: its not Caspian. I'm not sure where that came from. I believe its red oak treated with the Cambia process or something like that. As you can tell I'm not sure. Here's a link about it:

Sorry for the confusion.

The whole idea of thermal treatment of wood be it cambia or other is to provide dimensional stability, and added protection against the elements or insect or other damage. there should be no reason to stain or finish, contact your source on this, they should tell you the same, if not, then they would know best as to what should be used to color and finish if it's not the case. ok?

Sincerely,

CHEMMY
