Matching fake cherry color

Ok, I have to try to match wood and color of an entertainment center that is cherry. This is an out of the box put together cherry colored entertainment center. I was wondering if anyone has ever tried to match the fake crap and what type of wood and stain that they used? I will be making a coffee table to match.

Thanks,
Al

Oh boy...well, if it really is a simulation of cherry, you can actually use cherry and experiment with stains. It is rare that you will find a stain right off the shelf which will get you there. Typically, you will have to layer a couple different stains, maybe add some tint, to get just the right tones. I don't do this a lot, so I don't have an arsenal of dyes and stains and tints to work from. But I've done it enough to know that it's sometimes easy, sometimes not. But layering has consistently worked for me.
