Maloof Mix: Part 2

So most descriptions of the Sam Maloof Mix include "Mixture 2 Recipe Mix 2 handfuls of shredded beeswax to equal parts of boiled linseed oil and raw tung oil. Heat the mixture in a double-boiler on an electric hotplate just until the wax melts. Due to the volatile nature of the ingredients, brew your mixture outdoors. When cooled, the mixture should have the consistency of heavy cream."

My question is about melting the bees wax. Does it need to be mixed with the two oils before heating for this to work? Is there some sort of heat-activated polymerization of all 3 ingredients going on? Or can I just melt the beeswax and pour it in? I'm a bit skeptical, even with a hot plate and double boiler outside 100 feet away from shop, of having BLO near a heat source.
