I am doing a new project. I have already sanded the entire table and am getting ready to begin the staining process. I have not worked with Birch before and will be staining the table dark to match the rest of the furniture in the room which is probably antique walnut. I have created a checklist for the next steps and want to share it with the experts in this forum to see if there are any glaring mistakes or hints at making the finished product better:
Step 1: Sand
Step 2: Use Tack cloth to remove dust
Step 3: Apply pre-stain conditioner (unless using gel stain, then skip this step)
Step 4; Apply stain with a brush, then wipe it off with a rag. Let dry at least 24 hours.
Step 5: Apply polyurethane using a good brush, let dry, then lightly sand, repeat 3 times
Step 6: Apply paste finishing wax with 0000 steel wool, buff with auto buffer
Thanks for your help!
