Coffee table - into an outdoor bench, indoor bench, or other?
I have an older coffee table, and I don't know what it's made of. I am guessing it's from the 70's. It is heavy and part of the wood is curved on the edges. It's dark brown with a reddish tint, and when it gets wet, the top layer turns white quickly. When it dries, the white goes away. The surface looks a bit dull and scratched, but not too bad. Cleaning doesn't make it look better, and furniture polish only helps a bit.
I was wondering if I can waterproof it somehow, and place it outside as a bench/footstool/table. Of course it'd be a bench with no back if it become a bench. How many layers would I need, and how much would it cost? How much cheaper if I wanted to improve it but only use it indoors, so it didn't need to be waterproof? I can't use it the way it is now, because I accidentally got some scent in it and because I hate how you can't even sit a drink on it now.
Also would MinWax work? Because I have some of that left over.
I am also interested in other ideas for what to make of it. Or I will sell it off cheaply if I don't have an idea I like (that's relatively cheap and easy!), so someone else can enjoy it for a while. Thanks.
