What kind of sand paper

Just a short question. What type of sand paper do you guys use? I like to sand my small boxes up to 600 grit but when i get past 220 the sand paper that i use just clogs up almost instantly and instead of cutting the wood it just burnishes it, which makes it finish unnevenly and leaves small scratches. I am using gator wet/dry paper (it might be an automotive paper) because I can't find other paper in high enough grits.
Thanks

I use Abranet, it's a little spendy but goes a long ways. I buy from a gentleman at IAP.

i use mostly felt back sand paper Aluminium oxide abrasive the good thing about it you can tear it in to strips and wet sand as well

i use Velcro mounted discs for power sanding i buy it in sheets and cut it to size
i Mosley start from 120 180 150 320 240 400 600

i some times use 80 on torn end grain especially on the inside of a bowl
hope this helps

I use Norton 3X up to 400 grit for hand sanding. I use the blue discs from www.vinceswoodnwonders.com
Another good place to buy sandpaper is www.thesandingglove.com

Nate, Ive taken a class at CraftSupply and got to use that sandpaper. Very nice, but not so nice for me to spend the money on it. For bowls I like Klingspor discs on a drill. For small stuff, I like the cloth backed rolls. I use PSI, but also like Klingspors "ends box". Otherwise I prefer 3M paper.

That bowl was perfect right up until that last cut...

I usually by the 5 pack of assorted rolls when woodcraft runs them on sale. 150-600. Seems to work pretty well. We have a saying around the turning club about sandpaper, "Use it like someone else is paying for it." In other words, 150 doesn't become 400 as it wears out. If you have little tupperware containers you save all the used pieces of sandpaper in, throw them away.
