Have not worked with Yew but I use Naptha, lacquer thinner or Acetone to clean oily woods before I use epoxy with them. Some woods still don't seem to bond all that solid.

Rob we need more info. What is it that you are trying to do??? What resin are you using??? What is your method of applying??? I can tell you this you may need vacuum to do what you want to do but let us see what you can add.

Never used yew but shellac can be used in between incompatible finishes. Try it on some scrap.

I turn a lot of Yew and have never had a problem with any finish including CA on it. I haven't found it necessary to wipe it down with a solvent prior to finishing.
