Nice looking bowl. You sure that's walnut? Never saw walnut w/ that kind of orange streak in it.

You can never have too much pepperoni on your pizza or own too many clamps.

I've never seen walnut that looks like that before, but it sure it purdy!! Fantastic job. It looks great. I especially like the shape and the finish.

There is a very fine line between a "hobby" and a "mental illness"

Kenbo, the finish I've been using on my bowls lately is: sand to 180 grit, 1 thin coat of sanding sealer on the lathe, sand again from 80 grit through 320, then apply 3 coats of walnut oil.

As to the wood, I don't know enough about the different species of walnut, claro, english, black, etc; but I get this from a friend who works making furniture at a shop that uses only salvaged trees from all around the Puget Sound. He gets me there ends/edges that would otherwise en dup in a burn pile.

That bowl was perfect right up until that last cut...

That is one pretty bowl ! Don't worry about the type of Walnut it is. I personally have ended up with several diffrent looking woods which were suppose to be Walnut. Some have been very dark while others have been light. It has never concerned me because I feel that all wood is pretty. Just wish I was more experienced so I could make some pretty things.
