Turning legs for ladder back chairs

I plan on making ladder back chairs. Many of the plans I have seen show the back legs as straight but I have seen many chairs that the back legs tilt just slightly back above the seat. If I plan to turn these legs on a lathe how is that bend accomplished?

Apparently some are steam bent and some are cut on the band saw first and then turned. My friend does them without turning. He uses a shaving horse and steam bends them after shaping them. Being a lathe person I made one using the lathe to turn the back and then bent them.
There is an article in Woodturning magazine that I was reading this morning and he cuts the backs on the bandsaw and then makes a cradle to hold the bend portion off center and turns the leg portion. I now remember that Norm Abrams did the same thing on his how. Obviously there is more than one way to do this.

Thanks. I just found an article by Ernie Conover in Fine Woodworking, vol 177 on steam bending after turning.
