The first stuff I tried to turn was flame boxelder I think too, white with the pink streaks, too and it tore out on me like crazy. It was soft and wet and I screwed it up bad and it ended up in the garbage. It smelled terrible too. Caveat: It was the first I turned, and I sucked at it. Still do but not quite as bad.

Tearout

Thats the stuff I am using Dave. Got a greenish tinge to it, so I suppose it is tulip poplar.

I have re-sharpened the tools and had a go with light strokes as Texas suggested. I gotta say, so far it seems to be working.

I did try to sand out tearout's on a previous bowl (Not segemented) and it left terrible black marks. it looked awful. I kept the sandpaper moving but it still happened.

I was given this wood ( a fair bit of it) now I know why. I don't think I shall be buying any.

Thanks again guys. I do seem to get a lot of help from the USA when I get a problem, not so much in the UK. I find that sad.

So thanks America, as our friend Arnold say's " I'll be back"

Cheers Dave
