Spalted maple burl

One of the benefits of selling your work at craft shows and farmers markets and the like is the connections you make. This summer I met a gentleman at the local farmers market I sell at who offered me some maple burl. He said big pieces but it wasn't until I went to his place that I realized what he meant by big. I took home 3 pieces of spalted, bug gotten maple burl slab that are 5 inches thick. One piece was as wide as the bed of my Toyota Tacoma and almost as deep. The other 2 pieces are C shaped, about 1/2 of the largest piece. A neighbor that I met at a different Street Fair came by today with his chainsaw and helped me break this down into useable sized pieces (there is a lot of rot, punky spots and bug eaten areas). Here are a few stoppers I turned today just to see what it looks like. I'll be able to salvage at least a dozen 8-10 inch bowl blanks (probably more) and more stopper blanks than I'll be able to turn in a long time. If anyone is interested in a couple of stopper blanks, pm me.

You can never have too much pepperoni on your pizza or own too many clamps.

Very nice SD.
Sounds like a good find. Post some more pics as you use it up.
