spalted maple box

The wood for this box was from my neighbor across the road. He lives on the north side of our hill and has a bunch of maple, some oak, hickory Dogwood too. I'm on the South side of that hill and not a maple to be found!. But..I have a bunch of Walnut, several kinds of oak, Hickory,Ash and wayyyy too much red cedar!. His firwood pile gave me 8 nice sized logs that have been down and stacked for 2 years. They all show some nice spalting and not much punky wood. So, his wife gets the box and I have a big popcorn bowl roughed out and awaiting final turning for him. ...Bill...

Love the finial. I'll second the good choice of the detail on the bottom. All of that adds up to a great box.
