NIce job on your first bowls. I especially like the one in the bottom pic.

That bowl was perfect right up until that last cut...

Only had the lathe for a few months? That is some awesome progress. Every one of those bowls looks like it was turned by a seasoned pro. Great work.

There is a very fine line between a "hobby" and a "mental illness"

Thanks everyone. I didn't post the pics of all the failures I made. The dark wood was given to me but he didn't know what it was. I still have a lot to learn.

Finishes I use are walnut oil, minwax wipe on poly and mylands friction polish. I have tried bees wax as well.

I just finished another one with my new chuck and jumbo jaws. I even got to use my new 22" bowl gouges. Man they make it nice.

Jumbo jaws are so much easier than jam chucks.

Uh oh...
You've introduced me to Jumbo Jaws.

She won't be happy about this!

More tools!

p

...Okay, been looking around...
What size are those that you are using..?
I've got a 12.5" max "swing" on my lathe...
I plan to do bowls up to +/- 12"...
Will the 8" jaws accomodate this..?
Boy, that sounded like a stupid question!

You have to attach these to the 8" jaws so you need that first. These max out my inboard diameter at 14" but since the jumbo is polymer it can be trimmed down. There are marks on it for this to be done. All the hardware from the 8" jaws work on the jumbo.
