Soft Maple

I might be coming into a couple of PU loads of soft maple firewood (I know it's low BTU so I mix it in with my hardwoods - it's free!). Some of it is 18-24" dia. which should make some nice bowl blanks. I know it'll be easy to turn, but I was wondering if anyone has ever turned a bowl or platter from it? I don't think it has too great of grain so the bowl will probably be plain. If I get the logs, I'll still cut some bowl blanks for practice wood and maybe even CSM some thick slabs.
