Hi Quickstep, this is one of the things I agonize about as I set up my shop! Seems like I spent more time reorganizing my tools then turning at times! Since I don't have my shop set up yet and none of my previous layouts seemed to be much good. I figured I would show some ideas I found on pinterest that I am considering :
I kind of like the idea of the wall mount french clear pvc rack- combine that with a lathe bed mount so you could take different "sets" of the wall and hang on the lathe (or a free standing cart) seems intriguing to me!
Love to see some pics of what you have now, and what you decide to do to add on.
I made a lathe table with built in storage. The tool rack has a pair of dowels at a 5 degree angle to guide and cradle a tool. The panels are 8.5 inches apart. For some tools a keyhole shape on the back worked. The gun rack is for SB Tools (I have one handle for those).
I can boast of my tool storage from wood. I've done this storage for 3 days and now it looks professional. Before doing my tool storage, I have read one interesting post here https://toolboxwiki.com/blog/diy-tool-storage-ideas/
Do you like my storage?
I do not have good turning tool storage when the tools are not in use. I put them away in their crumbling original boxes and tubes, which go on shelves. Someday (sigh).
I work outside and usually bring out a Workmate 125 or Workmate 400 as a worktable. When I do woodturning, the lathe stand holds six turning tools. The dog holes in the Workmates are convenient for additional turning tools.
(Note: The added shelf gets in the way of turning tools with very long handles. I have one tool that won't fit - a OneWay Termite hollowing tool.)

Does anybody have a Nova Orion? I just placed an order for one and it’s got a built-in stand...
But I’m in a smaller shop, so I was wondering if anyone has done anything to mobilize it or add a storage around the base. Thoughts?
