Retirement gift

A woman in my office is retiring after 44 years of federal service, quite a feat and we will certainly miss the knowledge that is walking out the door with her. As a parting gift I made her a box elder candy dish. It started out as more of a bowl, but when the bottom got really thin, I decided to add the walnut plug and pedestal to the bottom, which I think turned out pretty nice considering it was a screw-up on my part.

I want to die quietly in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming in terror like the passengers of his car.

I like that a lot----I've cut and burned a lot of that wood----Next tree that comes down I think I'll run a truck load of it to the local turning club----

She will like that---very thoughtful---Mike---

That's beautiful, she is gonna love it. Really like the way the walnut offsets and accentuates the look. I gotta get me some of that.

A wise man once told me, "Relax and enjoy life, cause you'll never get out of here alive." RIP Dad

Thanks for the compliments! Box Elder is a bit more difficult to turn, lots of tear out, but the results are worth it I think. I've got a bunch still drying and my eye on getting some more from the same source.

I want to die quietly in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming in terror like the passengers of his car.
