pen turning/ice cream scoop

im buying this to make these icecream scoops and also gonna use it to make some pens
i have a drill press to drill my blanks
can i buy these and make some pen with the same mandrel?
can i make any pens with the above mandrel?

Yes you can use that mandrel to make about 95% of the pens on the market. Thats a standard "A" or 7mm mandrel. You will need bushings as well. If you dont have a 60 degree live center you will also need one of those. The recess in the end of the mandrel is 60 degrees.

ive got the 60 degree live center

im confused though
does the pen kit not come with the bushings?

No the kit just comes with the componants to make the pen. Bushings you buy seperate but for the pen kits you posted, the bushings are only a few bucks. Bushings you use over and over and till you have changed thier diameter from sanding and then you replace them. Have a look at the thread I posted the other day, "Pen Turning Basics". duncuss posted a pic that should help you understand bushings.
