Beautiful vase. Nice video. Thank you for sharing it.

I would have liked to see the technical details of how you created the tenon, mounted it to the chuck, how you parted off the top part, and how you parted off and finished the base when you were done.

We tried the same ebonizing stain on small oak buttons last week and it worked out very well. Spouse wanted to use some of our small stash of expensive ebony to make eyes for an intarsia reindeer. I suggested that we try ebonizing oak buttons instead. They turned out very well. To make the stain, we put steel wool in a jar and poured distilled white vinegar over it until it was covered, then let it sit for two days, stirring occasionally. Pour the liquid through a coffee filter and save it. The stain is chemical - you can see the wood slowly darken. Wipe it on the wood and watch the magic happen.
