Without a doubt. Although they are both nice lathes ( own the powermatic and have demo'd several times on the Nova) The mass of the powermatic makes all the difference. I also found a few of the "features" of the Nova electronics a little irritating. I don't remember exactly what they are now and I could probably get used to using the speed control but it was irritating during the demo.
The other reason is the proprietary motor of the DVR. If that ever goes out and Nova isn't still making it your screwed. There isn't anything on the Powermatic that can't be replaced by either aftermarket stuff or built from scratch by a machinist. That is the main reason I went with the Powermatic. Of course when I bought mine the difference in price wasn't as huge as it is now. If you were to compare the Jet 16/42 would still go with the Jet over the Nova.
By the way, I own a Nova Comet mini lathe and Nova chuck and live center and they are fabulous. They build excellent equipment.
