New maple bowl with feet

This was a fun project. I like the way the handles came out. The feet are pretty good but I would like to shape them more animated. The hair details were burned in. It's good practice making those repeated shapes.

Impressive as always John, your patience is to be envied with all the burning that took. I really like how the feet look, the handles look a bit thick or bulky but it might just be how the picture was taken. Great work!

I want to die quietly in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming in terror like the passengers of his car.

...ever notice how "I'm sorry" and "I apologize" mean the same thing, unless you are at a funeral..?

John, very nice...looks like a lot of effort. Do you have a web-site with examples of your work?

Thats pretty cool, darn thing looks like its walking my way! I wouldn't mind knowing a little bit more about the execution that went into making it.

John I'm working on an article for Woodturning Design on how to make this bowl. Basically you turn a bowl leaving a ring for the handles and a ring on the bottom for the feet. Then you carve away everything that isn't a foot or handle.

Pretty cool John.
Looks like it should have a face. Reminds me of something from Alice in Wonderland. Am I showing my age? We had Trent Bosch demo at our turning club back in the summer and he does some similar type things with the handles. Neat idea.

WOW. That is amazing work. I would say it took some time to produce that piece. The burning itself is time consuming. Thanks for sharing.

What an eye-catching piece - your imagination, skill and patience all shine through! And yes, it made me laugh out loud too.

Me too ... finally I realised that what I saw in the handles is the shape of Gromit's ears ... LINK ... but the overall effect for me is one of the sheep that Nick Parks created for the "Creature Comforts" animations.

If this link works you will find Scottish quaiche examples. I turned a few for a family wedding. They share the turning characteristics of the bowl you have made.
It would be fun to use your burning, feet and the "handles" to fashion an animal form like a pig? LOL
