Need Some Advice

I have a nice burl of maple (I think it is)that I would like to make a bowl out of.I have thought of leaving it square,or maybe rounding the corners off,but evertime I change my mind, and do not know just what to use it for.I have taken some photos of this burl, and it shows the front, back, and side view.It is about 12"square,and 4" thick.I think that when it is completed it would look great. The best (or worst)part,I have two more pieces, one smaller, and one 32" long and about 20" wide and about 8" thick. Thanks for any ideas;Mack

I tend to torture myself over special pieces of wood too. From my limited experience I've learned not to get too caught up in trying to make the largest form I can get from the blank. I'm usually happier to make a really nice 8" bowl than to make a 10" bowl that looks "forced". I'm sure whatever you make will be great and there are a lot more trees out there waiting for you. Post pics!

Great advice

I fall into the same trap, and it's only when I have a blank with a few deep cracks that I remember to consider (a) what might be the nicest looking big item, and (b) what can I do with the leftovers if I'm careful about how I arrange the cuts.
