Merry xmas....

Ya its a little late.
The ring made it all the way through its journey. That was a rather large test for me. Just the stain and finsh was a pain with that thing.
Oak log.. pulled from fire wood pile.
Ring stained red, rest natural.
Finished with poly and the lower portion of the inside has epoxy over that. I didnt want to see the over lay line of epoxy so thus just the lower portion on the inside was done, up the lower end of the necked down part. Cant see the line when looking in. Point being I would like to think its usable from time to time, with just a little bit of ice. Will they? doubt it...Should they? doubt it, but had to try and make it so.

Hw,
nice job. I would think you'd be fine putting ice in there occasionally. Shouldn't hurt anything. Did you dry out the log or blank somehow before you turned it, or was the log dry to start with?

Thanks all. The log was a fairly dry one. Bark was off and weathered as if it had been off for a season or more before I got it. Granted the log was not split open and by log I mean 100" log, so by no means was it real dry at the core. After turning it I put it in a bag. There were some small checks in the upper rim right off but they closed back up...and that made me smile.

Wow, very nice. I've tried a ring a few times and broken it each time. Good for you for succeeding with this one. Great work.

There is a very fine line between a "hobby" and a "mental illness"
