medieval bowl from sherwood forest

Here are a couple of new videos on youtube of a commission I had to turn a bowl for Robin Hood from oak from Sherwood Forest, on a foot powered lathe of course.

Here's the short fun version of Robin collecting his bowl

and the slightly longer version with more on the making of the bowl

I followed the link from your website to the Sherwood Forest, pretty neat. The Major Oak was impressive , 800 years old.

Nice bowl by the way. I assume that is a white oak species?

Major oak is indeed impressive, what is equally impressive is that there are about 900 similar veteran oaks there. We only have 2 native oaks, not sure what makes something a "white oak" but our species are Quercus robur (pedunculate oak) and Quercus patrea (sesile oak) The wood is indistinguishable, though sessile tends to be more burry and sometimes has a higher proportion of sap.
