live center options

So I was attempting my first pepper mill today. Only to find out that the live center that I have is too small and doesn't touch the 1 1/16" or the 1 5/8" hole... rendering it ineffective. I turned a little piece to jam into the hole but I don't like that for a long term solution.

So I ran across a larger 60* center: http://www.woodturnerscatalog.com/st...ing_cone?Args=

And then I saw this kit with the interchangeable tips is also on sale: http://www.woodturnerscatalog.com/st...evolving?Args=

Is the kit with the interchangeable tips worth the extra money? I can see cup one coming in handy for bowl turning... anyone have one?

Thanks
Derek

Oneway Revolving Center

The Oneway Revolving Center is a multi-purpose center designed to perform a number of applications. The body is precision machined from premium alloy steel, heat treated, then nickel plated. In the end of the live center is a 5/8" dia. cup center with a removable center pin. The exterior of the 5/8" cup center is threaded (3/4"-10tpi) to accept either the bull nose cone center (reversible) or full point cone center. The bull nose and full point cone give you the ability to self-center any work up to 3-1/4" diameter. The large bull nose cone can be reversed, permitting self-centering of round or square spindles up to 3".

I'm a big fan of the Nova live center. The interchangeable points use a short #2 morse taper so it's very easy to build any kind of adaptor you want out of wood, plastic or aluminum.
I'm also interested in the live center set sold by www.thesandingglove.com. It is really nice and I may get one to go along with my Nova live center.

Dv,
I use one of these. It works fine and is pretty inexpensive. The kits are nice too.

Here's the ones I was talking about from Thesandingglove. They have a straight shank so it would be very easy to build your own attachments if the ones they give you aren't enough. This live center has industrial grade bearings. It's excellent.llll

Here is the Nova live center. I don't remember who carries them. Possibly Packard or Woodcraft.
