I was once rich and employed, and bought a nice turned, one piece, solid continuous head and handle, round wood mallet.
I was once angry when I screwed up a dovetail joint at the end of a project, and lost control.
I now have a two piece lignum mallet of no use other than being fairly heavy wooden weights of odd shape.
Am thinking of coring out the mallet head and turning an ash handle to fit, and a looking for ad vice. The lignum is unfinished except for a wax coat. Questions include bore design; straight or tapered, handle, shouldered or straight, wedge fit taper with or without glue?
Any advice is welcome. Even bad advice can't be any worse than what I've done so far. Thanks
