Latest turning club demo

A couple of weeks ago, our turning club had Al Stirt come in from Vermont and do a demo for us on saturday, and teach a hands on class on sunday. Al is known for using different kinds of texturing in his work. He turns a lot of bowls, platters, and a kind of combo platter with a small bowl in the middle. He is a very nice guy, very humble, and did a nice job on the demo and the class. Here's a few pics.

Looks like a lot of fun! Those plates are cool, I like the embelishments on them. I recently discovered a turning club in my area. I am working the courage up to attend a meeting and see if it's for me. I'd really like to meet some other turners and learn some stuff from people with experience.

Ac,
do it. I think you'll find a good friendly bunch of guys. If they're anything like our club, they'll be glad to make you feel welcome. We have a pretty diverse group. Seems like each guy specializes in something, so we get a lot of nice pieces showing up each month on the show and tell table. Plus you will learn a lot in a short amount of time.
